Belief / Mission / Vision (3)

There are a number of things that I really believe in. They are the principles that underlie my work as a consultant, and they are as follows (part 3):

Agile development
What is the best way to complete a task? That depends on the task, of course, but the moment you have an enormous task that needs to be completed within a year you might have some problems overseeing it and therefore completing it.
I believe in using methods like Scrum within projects, because these methods break the big task down into small working packages that can be completed within a short space of time. The advantage of working like this is the satisfaction of the people executing these tasks (‘every two weeks I complete something’) and the ability to manage a project.

Appreciative Inquiry
During my CIGO studies, I became acquainted with Appreciative Inquiry. The best way to create an inspiring and effective IM environment is when people feel empowered to develop it and to work in/with it. AI is a perfect way to empower people and to get the best out of them.
The basic principle of AI is trying to improve organizations based on positive experiences and focusing on strengths rather than weaknesses. Looking at problems organizes resistance to change; looking at values and talent generates energy to move forward. We don’t want people to get defensive or start blaming others and have difficulties learning as a result. If we focus on the things that went well, people are enthused, willing to talk and engaged. It is a positive approach that generates energy in organizations and creates a positive environment.

There is nothing with which every man is so afraid as getting to know how enormously much he is capable of doing and becoming.
